About LokPal

Did you know?

Beyond alluding to 'local pals',

the word 'lokpal' is sanskrit for

'caretaker of the people'.

It appears in the 2011 'Lokpal Bill',

which established India's

anti-corruption public body.

Through the LokPal Project,

our aim is to understand how

local communities can better

'take care' of their members.

What is LokPal?

LokPal is a free service that facilitates the communal meeting and eating of “local pals” -- Cambridgeshire residents who are looking for new community connections. Guided by volunteers, the 'local pals' begin their session at the farmers' market, where volunteers help participants meet local vendors, educate them about sustainable produce, and purchase ingredients for their selected recipe. The group then heads to a nearby community centre to cook and enjoy the meal together!

How does LokPal work?

Once users sign up for a LokPal session and choose a seasonal recipe to prepare, coordinators will email them with further meeting details. On the selected day and time, volunteers meet the LokPal participants at the designated farmers' market in Shelford, Histon, or Cambridge. In total, one LokPal session takes about three hours, and is completely free for the participants.

Who should sign up?

Anyone who currently resides in greater Cambridgeshire! Whether you’re new or you’ve been here all your life, LokPal is an opportunity to meet new people, support

local farmers, help the environment, learn about sustainable cooking, and enjoy a FREE delicious and nutritious meal! If interested in joining future sessions, join our email list
